Koichi Nishiyama – Portrait

»This catastrophe will be clearly a turning point in Japan.
We can not yet digest the earthquake experience. The Tohoku area in Japan is still terrible. And in the nuclear power plant near Tokyo there has been a meltdown, as we now know.
Even though we try to continue with our lifes as before the earthquake. We have to cope with very complicated emotions. Sometimes I think that the earthquake was a bad dream. I cannot explain these feelings in English well… Every Japanese always keeps calm. But deep down we are very confused. Of course the nuclear power plant is related to all countries. We can not escape these effects. And some photographer might make a lot of work from this uncertainty.
We are very grateful for the support of people from around the world.
I really appreciate your concern.» – Koichi Nishiyama, May 2011
